What Are Gnats, and where do they come from?
A gnat is a tiny, winged insect in the fly family. The tiny flying insects commonly referred to as gnats may actually be fruit flies or fungus gnats. There are numerous distinctions between fruit flies and gnats. In this article, we shall be discussing gnats.
Gnats are primarily derived from eggs laid on unripe fruits. When the fruit rots, the larvae eat it to develop into adult gnats. Gnats can also get in thru an open door or window. They are found near leaking pipes, small holes, drainage, and organic matter.
If there is a garbage bin nearby with a gnat infestation, it’s common to have a few of these insects trickle inside. Gnats prefer warm, humid environments and are less likely to invade your space on cloudy, windy days.
What are Gnats Attracted To?
Gnats are primarily attracted to sweet and fruity scents, but many species of gnats are also attracted to water and body heat, which is why they fly around people and pets. Gnats are attracted to sweat and even the moisture in your eyes and nose. That is why they are always found around our heads.

A mixture of vinegar and soap
Gnats are drawn to the smells of vinegar and soap. They will gravitate toward it instead of your face if you leave it nearby. Pour 1-2 tbsp of your preferred vinegar into a small bowl. After that, add 3-5 drops of soap to the bowl and place it on a nearby table or the ground.
The gnats become trapped in the liquid and are unable to escape. Dish soap, hand soap, or bar soap can all be used. You can use Apple cider vinegar for better results.
Sprinkle spice powder
Shake 1-3 tablespoons of cayenne pepper, garlic, pepper, salt, or cinnamon mixture around your workspace. Depending on the area, you may require more or less. But mainly, Gnats breed in moist areas like compost piles, flowerpots, exposed garbage. Females can easily lay up to 300 eggs in a lifetime, in batches of about 30 eggs on rotting organic matter.
Gnats’ life cycle
These flies undergo metamorphosis and have four life stages: egg, larvae, pupae, and adult. These gnats’ longevity is not particularly impressive because they do not live for an extended period. Their ability to reproduce and keep themselves populated, on the other hand, is quite impressive.
