Tick Risk Heatmap

Tick populations are migrating. Diseases once found only in the Northeast are now spreading. Know your local threat level.

Select Region

Northeast

Primary Threat: Deer Tick (Lyme)

Detailed Analysis

Extremely High Lyme Risk. 50%+ of adult ticks carry it.

Recommended Precautions

  • Use Permethrin on shoes/pants (NOT skin).
  • Ticks are active any day above 40°F (even in winter).

The 40-Degree Rule

A common myth is that ticks die in winter. They do not. Adult Deer Ticks are active purely based on temperature. If it is 40°F (4°C) in January and the snow melts, they will be hunting.

Always check for ticks after winter hikes during thaw periods.
